Why Choose an HMO?
Making the right choice in the East Bay
HMO is an abbreviation for "health maintenance organization." Affinity Medical Group is an HMO. An HMO offers many kinds of healthcare services to its members. In return, members (and/or their employers) pay a fixed cost each month for these services. HMOs are sometimes called managed care organizations. According to the California Office of the Patient Advocate, almost half of the people in California belong to an HMO.
HMOs emphasize preventive care. Not only does this help maintain better health and find problems earlier, it also helps to keep patient out-of-pocket expenses and overall health care costs lower. HMOs contract with providers and hospitals who agree to follow the same quality care and cost guidelines. Many HMO members may pay a fixed amount, called a copayment, for each service they get, and they may also have a yearly deductible. Co-payments and deductibles also help keep the cost of healthcare down.
Selecting a PCP
With most HMOs like Affinity, you are required to select a primary care physician, and visit other doctors/healthcare facilities within a pre-approved network. With Affinity Medical Group's East Bay focus, you and your family can choose from almost 100 Primary Care Physicians and over 500 specialists near your home, work, or school. Affinity operates like a “clinic without walls,” linking our patients and our health plans with our established network of top-quality physicians, hospitals, laboratories, x-ray, physical therapy, and more.
One of the East Bay's Finest Medical Groups
Affinity's top-notch physicians must pass a stringent list of qualifications in order to treat you. The state of California's Office of the Patient Advocate rated Affinity Medical Group with its highest "Excellent" rating for meeting national standards of care, in both Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
